GOGO MOAD at the Miami Book Fair Street Fair

MOAD’s free children’s education program on the move, GOGO MOAD, pops up at locations throughout Miami. Shared learning experiences of exploring ideas and creating together, these programs include artist-led hands-on art-making and fun collaborative activities for the whole family.

Open to children ages 5 and up and their families.

On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 18–20, during Miami Book Fair Street Fair, artist Asser Saint-Val leads participants in three unique activities:

Building Miami: My Home, My Space
Using wooden blocks, participants will build small-scale structures inspired by Miami’s architecture, their own homes, or their favorite landmarks in Miami.

Miami in My Own Words
Using frames, stencils, rulers, markers, colored pencils, and imagination, families will create their own text art, expressions, or poems relating to Miami, including the inscription “Miami in My Own Words” written in English, Spanish, and Creole. This project relates to Estuary [Pavilion for MOAD], a new work by multidisciplinary artist Rafael Domenech, commissioned by the Museum of Art and Design, and presented at the Miami Book Fair.

Imaginary Creatures
Participants will unleash their creativity by sculpting imaginary creatures they would like to see living in Miami, or they can sculpt a favorite creature that’s already here!

Born in Haiti, Asser Saint-Val earned BFAs in both Painting and Graphic Design from New World School of the Arts, University of Florida, Gainesville. His work investigates Neuromelanin as it relates to spirituality and self-consciousness, and he explores these ideas in paintings and multi-sensory interactive art installations. The artist’s works are quasi-figurative and ambiguous and bring together ideas central to modern debates about Neuromelanin. Saint-Val has exhibited at the Museum of Art and Design at MDC (2014); Farside Gallery, Miami (2013); and Miami Dade County Public Library (2008). He lives and works in Miami.
