MOAD’s free children’s education program on the move, GOGO MOAD pops up at the Little Haiti Book Festival 2024. GOGO MOAD programs feature shared learning experiences of exploring ideas and creating together, and include artist-led hands-on art-making and fun collaborative activities for the whole family.
Ti kay means a "little house" in Creole. In this workshop, teaching artist Asser Saint-Val leads participants in the construction of their own ti kay. Using wooden blocks and patterned tape, and drawing inspiration from the iconic architecture, vibrant colors, and dynamic designs of Little Haiti, young artists can craft unique homages to one of the city's liveliest neighborhoods.
Part of the Miami Book Fair's Little Haiti Book Festival 2024, the event takes place at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex. The Book Festival includes storytelling, live music, free books, dance performances, a marketplace, and more fun for the whole family!
Born in Haiti, Asser Saint-Val earned BFAs in both Painting and Graphic Design from New World School of the Arts, University of Florida, Gainesville. His work investigates Neuromelanin as it relates to spirituality and self-consciousness, and he explores these ideas in paintings and multi-sensory interactive art installations. The artist’s works are quasi-figurative and ambiguous and bring together ideas central to modern debates about Neuromelanin. Saint-Val has exhibited at the Museum of Art and Design at MDC (2014); Farside Gallery, Miami (2013); and Miami Dade County Public Library (2008). He lives and works in Miami.
GOGO MOAD is open to children ages 5 and up and their families. This event is free and open to the public.
GOGO MOAD is part of the Museum Without Boundaries initiative.
