Land, Text, Light: Out of the Vault continues a series of exhibitions for Miami Dade College’s campus galleries that highlight works from the Museum of Art and Design’s collection. Some of these works are rarely seen, while others have been featured in recent exhibitions. The works by painter Lynne Golob Gelfman and multimedia artist Xaviera Simmons are recent donations to the collection, and Out of the Vault marks the first time the college presents these works in their galleries.
The five artists featured in this exhibition are Lynne Golob Gelfman, Pat Lipsky, Emilio Sanchez, Xaviera Simmons, and Purvis Young. Each of these American artists produced distinctive bodies of work that allow for rumination on the human condition. Whether it be work that represents land or evokes land, compositions that literally present text or conjure unique storytelling, or art that considers visual perception and how light and color coalesce, this exhibition invites unexpected dialogue about American art.
This exhibition is organized in support of the America250 celebrations at Miami Dade College and nationwide. This exhibition joins other projects organized by the MOAD team, including Purvis Young: Out of the Vault and Abstraction as Legacy as a part of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the formal establishment of the United States of America.
Free parking is available at MDC's Padrón Campus flat parking lot located at 2501 SW 6TH Street, Miami, FL 33135.
The Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at MDC may document the event, including its attendees. By entering the area, and/or participating in the event, you consent to the recording and its use in any form.
Programs at the Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at Miami Dade College (MDC) are made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor, and the Board of County Commissioners. They are sponsored in part by the State of Florida Division of Arts and Culture, with support from Art Bridges, and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
