Designed for those immersed in the writing of Lydia Cabrera and Édouard Glissant, as well as those encountering their work for the first time, the Close Reading panel discussion with Guillermina De Ferrari, Erica Moiah James, and Alfredo Perez-Triff is an opportunity to dive deeper into specific theories, terms, or passages put forth by the scholars who inspired the exhibition Where the Oceans Meet. Each panelist delivers a brief but illuminating presentation on a single topic and then engages in a lively group discussion moderated by Rina Carvajal, exhibition co-curator, to forge meaningful connections between their interpretations and the broader notions uniting works in the exhibition.
The Close Reading panel discussion is a public program that accompanies the exhibition Where the Oceans Meet, curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Asad Raza, Gabriela Rangel, and Rina Carvajal. It is made possible by generous support from the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners; and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
